AIBE

The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is a mandatory certification exam conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI) for law graduates in India who wish to practice as advocates. It assesses the candidate’s legal knowledge, analytical skills, and understanding of professional ethics to ensure they are competent to practice law in Indian courts.

1. Purpose

  • To test a law graduate’s ability to apply legal principles and practice law in India.

2. Eligibility

    • Category II (40% weightage): Practical subjects like Professional Ethics, Public Interest Litigation (PIL), and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
    • Anti-Ragging Relevance: Subjects like IPC (e.g., sections on criminal intimidation or hurt) and PIL are directly applicable to ragging-related cases.
  • Passing Marks: 45% for General/OBC candidates (45 marks out of 100); 40% for SC/ST candidates (40 marks).

4. Application Process
